If you struggle with self-discipline, you're not alone! Here's the reality: another checklist isn't the solution. But there's hope. Here's your real problem, and more importantly - your solution!

Our social media accounts are filled with our best selfies and filtered photos. {And it totally makes sense... I mean, who wants to post pictures of their bed-head or spitup or the play-doh stains on the carpet? - And I won't even tell you how many selfies I have to take with my two-year-old before I get one that's post-worthy.} But today, I want to peel back the curtain and let you in on a little secret.

The Struggle Is Real: Self-Discipline

I struggle. Yep, I know - you're totally shocked, but it's true {if we haven't met in real-life, just know I'm being totally sarcastic!}

But seriously, let's talk about a struggle that I know many of us deal with daily: discipline and self-discipline. #thestruggleisreal

We Crave Order & Peace

See here’s the thing, most of us crave order and peace; we want to be better managers of our time. I don’t know a single woman who would say, “No, I feel really great about how everything’s going and I’m totally organized and my life is perfect.” It’s just not the case. We all have really good intentions but the fact of the matter is, many of us fall short when it comes to discipline.

Sure, we do everything right on the outside... We buy these amazing binders and notebooks and printables and we go check out a book about how to be organized from the library. And we think that if we fill out this printable, or we read this book that we’re automatically going to have these super-organized homes and our lives are gonna be in order.

@@The latest printable won't get you organized - YOU will get you organized! #selfdiscipline #getorganized #truthbomb@@

Here's the reality: all of the reading and planning in the world won't organize us. So, we feel even more frustrated because we’ve read this book by this amazing woman who is getting everything done, and we’re still not.

It All Comes Down to Activity

Because the solution to our problem isn't just a printable or a book {though these are certainly useful} - the solution is in the ACTION we take. It's in the IMPLEMENTATION.

And if we're being super-honest {and yes, this is harsh}, we are the problem. Yep, it's true. When I think about the areas where the struggle is real, and I peel back the layers of the onion, I realize that I am the issue.

Now, before you stop reading, hear me out! I’m not discounting the reality that many of us face.

So for example I’m a toddler mom. I have no idea why the Lord saw fit to create another one of me, but I am raising a two-year old who is stubborn, and who is strong-willed, and who has her own mind, and is such an individual.

And here’s the thing about that: it’s amazing and it’s completely not what I was expecting when I went into motherhood.

Truly, I was expecting obedient children who never whined and did exactly as they were told. I didn’t understand why mothers couldn’t keep their children in line. And now I do. Oh, how I do! {Yes, I was the one giving the mean looks on the airplane. And now that I'm on the receiving end, I realize how unenlightened I was back then!}

So I get it... life throws us curve balls. But, whether or not I choose to remain disciplined has nothing to do with circumstances that surround me.

At the end of the day, how I act and how I react is 100% dependent on me.

We Are The Problem, And We Are the Solution!

And there’s the beauty in that. When we realize that whether or not we live a self-disciplined life depends on us, we realize that we are the problem but we are also the solution. And for me that is super, super freeing.

If you’ve struggled with self-discipline, if you’ve struggled with being organized or feeling like you don’t have it altogether. I want you to re-commit today. Tell yourself, “Action starts with me, discipline starts with me, change starts with me.”

Now Go and Do!

Your action item today: Pick one small project that’s been really nagging at you. {No I’m not talking about redesigning your website, I’m talking about something that you could actually finish in the next 24 hours}. I want to challenge you to finish it.

Maybe your kitchen’s a mess. I want you to resolve to clean it in the next 24 hours. Maybe it’s the laundry piling up and you haven’t folded it in years. Go fold your laundry in the next 24 hours. Or maybe you’re like me and you struggle with responding to emails. I want you to go email back everyone who’s requested information from you this past week.

Pick one area that you’re going to be super disciplined in over the next 24 hours and then keep that momentum going.

Because while we are the problem, we are also the solution. And the only way to change is to DO. Before you buy another book, or download another printable, go and DO what you know you should be doing.

I want to hear from you: what will you go and do today?
