Busy moms, bloggers, and female entrepreneurs need great tools to get things done more efficiently and more quickly. I’m frequently asked what blogging tools I use. This is a list of many of the tools and blogging resources I use and highly recommend.

Social Media Tools:

  • CoSchedule*: CoSchedule is a blogger's best friend when it comes to scheduling posts. Social media drives a significant portion of my blog traffic, and I cannot begin to tell you how much time I save with this fantastic blogging resource. I also manage multiple groups, courses, and bootcamps via CoSchedule. With CoSchedule, I can coordinate my Twitter, Facebook, Google +, and LinkedIn posts all from one platform. Try it. I guarantee you’ll love it! It’s definitely worth the $15/month that I gain back in time saved.
  • Buffer: This is another great free service for scheduling tweets and Facebook posts. Upgrading to the Awesome version ($10/month) allows you to schedule an unlimited number of posts and vary your schedule each day. I also have the Google Chrome extension on my laptop, so anytime I come across a blog post or website that I love, I click the little Buffer icon and easily draft my social media share. Buffer also has a fantastic business blog that everyone should read.
  • BoardBooster*: BoardBooster is {in my opinion} the best service for scheduling pins to Pinterest. It has so many features that make scheduling super-easy. The feature I personally use the most is the one for Scheduled Campaigns to promote new posts. It's free for the first 100 pins, and the paid version starts at just $5/month.


  • Evernote*: Evernote is a free digital filing cabinet and will quickly become your new best friend. It has literally changed the way I blog. All of my ideas for blog posts start out in Evernote. It's always with me on my phone, my computer, online – whenever I need it I can access it. I use it to take notes, jot down ideas, my content calendar, and just about everything. The free version is great, but the premium version is AMAZING! And for less than a cup of coffee each month, it's well worth it!

Image Creation and Editing:

  • PicMonkey*: PicMonkey is another free tool that I'm obsessed with {though I must admit, it’s worth it to upgrade to the Royale version for $33/year}. It is really easy to catch on, and they keep adding more and more options. Not only can you create graphics and labels in PicMonkey’s design feature, you can also edit photos and create collages as well. And you can even use your own fonts!
  • Canva: Canva is another free image creator/editor. The free version of Canva only costs money (usually $1) if you use their premium stock images. The easy-to-use templates within Canva allow you to create high-quality images where you can just plug in your own wording and have a totally professional-looking image for your blog post. Upgrading to the business version for $10/month will allow you to resize images with the click of a button and will allow you to store your branded colors and fonts.


  • MailChimp*: This is my email newsletter provider of choice for beginners. MailChimp has by far the best user interface in the industry. They have a free account (free for the first 2,000 subscribers) that is fantastic for bloggers getting started. If you want to setup an autoresponder series you’ll need a paid account (starts at $10/month) {and totally worth it}.

Hosting/Web Design:

  • HostGator*: New bloggers who are looking to set up a self-hosted blog should head to HostGator. You can literally set up a self-hosted blog in less than 10 minutes, all for about $5/month! I have always had great experiences with their customer service and really appreciate that when you call you get to talk to a real person. Because of their pricing and their speed, I think they are a great place for beginners to start.
  • Genesis Framework*: My site runs on the Genesis framework, and I can't say enough good things about it. I actually switched from Thesis to Genesis because of it's ease of use for non-coders. Genesis has built-in SEO and tons of designated plugins to make it easy to change the look and feel of your blog. And there is a helpful community forum for asking questions and documentation that shows you how to do just about anything.
  • Restored 316 Designs*:  Female entrepreneurs and bloggers will become obsessed with the Restored 316 Designs themes! Run on the Genesis framework, not only are all of their designs ridiculously well coded and highly functional, but their customer support is also fantastic!


  • Building A Framework*: Building a Framework: Everything I Learned My First Year of Blogging is a comprehensive guide for bloggers and soon-to-be bloggers, covering everything from getting the technical side of a blog set up and gaining your first followers to working with brands and making money. This was one of the first blogging resources I read and I wish I had read it sooner. Not only is Framework packed full of tried-and-true methods that you can start using today, but all of the information is laid out in a logical way that will take bloggers and bloggers-to-be through the process of growing successful blogs one step at a time.
  • Evernote Essentials*: This is a fantastic little eBook from Brett Kelly. A common challenge bloggers face when implementing a paperless system is learning how to effectively use Evernote. Evernote is a fantastic app that I highly recommend, but there is definitely a learning curve. Evernote Essentials will take the guesswork out and teach you to use Evernote effectively.
