I am SO excited about this week’s 5-minute book review segment.

If you haven’t heard, one of my goals this year was to read at least one book a week. And so far I’ve almost doubled that goal!

But more importantly, I’ve committed to implementing at least one new thing from each book I read.

Imagine how much your business would change if you implemented one new thing every single week?

And here’s the best part —

not only am I going to share what I read and what I learned, but I’m also giving away 10 copies of this book.

Here’s how to enter to win…

We’re picking 10 new winners every week! And I’m sure some of you unicorns will end up winning time and time again.

Ok without further ado, today I’m excited to introduce you to

RocketFuel by Gino Wickman and Mark Winters

This book and his prequel book, Traction, are both in my Top Books for Entrepreneurs. In Traction, we learn how to create a business plan… from setting goals and intentions to filling our org chart to leading a team, Traction is a fantastic tool for the online business owner who is ready to step away as the overwhelmed hobbyist and into the Impactful CEO.

And in the follow-up book, RocketFuel Wickman and Winters dive into the two leadership styles every small business needs: the Visionary who sees the future and the Integrator who makes it happen.

This book has helped me to make some lasting changes in the way we run our team internally, and these changes contributed to a quantum leap in service, sales, and morale in our team.

Now as you know, whenever I read something, I try and find at least ONE thing I can implement now in my business or life (and ideally THREE great things).

This book has helped me to make some lasting changes in the way we run our team internally, and these changes contributed to a quantum leap in service, sales, and morale in our team.

Here’s my top 3 takeaways from RocketFuel by Gino Wickman and Mark Winters.

#1

#1 – Are you a visionary or an integrator?

In the first part of this book, Gino + Mark dive into the difference between the Visionary and the Integrator. They give a quick test so you can see which you fall into, and they talk through why these two roles matter and help you learn how to best interact with the person in the opposite role from you.

The Visionary is the “ideas person” – they are constantly coming up with new thoughts and new ideas for the business (some great, some not-so-great). They see the big picture and are great at solving problems. But this person also struggles with reigning in their ideas. Because they aren’t a detailed person, they can move from one idea to the next without fully implementing… and they can sometimes be disorganized in process.

The integrator on the other hand is great at management and holding others accountable. They are consistent, able to clarify the vision, and execute. They roll up their sleeves and know how to make things happen. The Integrator is good at poking holes in ideas, and helps the visionary see what’s required to execute an idea.

As the visionary of the business with a strong affinity for Integration, this was so good for me to see how I can continue to work with those on my team who are helping to oversee the day to day operations.

#2

#2 – Every organization needs an organizational chart.

Even if it’s you in every single role right now, it won’t be possible to eventually delegate and outsource if you don’t know the roles, own the roles, and document the roles.

These roles include: Visionary, Integrator, Sales/Marketing, Operations, and Finance.

Creating this in our business was eye-opening for us. And if you haven’t done so yet, I highly recommend it. I remember when I first sat down to do this years ago, and realized I had been burying my head in the sand when it came to the finances piece. But like we teach in the Business with Impact Society™, you can’t grow what you don’t track. And making sure to keep the pulse on every area of your business – whether you’re just getting started or are running a multi seven-figure business – well, it matters!

#3

#3 – The Team Meeting.

In the Bonus Chapter on Audible, they included a sample team meeting structure. We implemented this exact structure back in Q1, and it led to the greatest output and productivity our team has ever seen. Not only is team morale higher than ever, but we are able to plan out two weeks in just 45 minutes. And solve issues. And easily spot where any issues are. The bonus chapter alone was worth it’s weight in gold for this book.

My only regret when it comes to this book is that I wish I would have read it sooner. If I had read Traction and RocketFuel before ever hiring my first contractor, I would have saved myself hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars in productivity, time, mistakes, and headaches. And that’s why this book is one of my top recommendations for entrepreneurs.
