Why I took six weeks off of social media

Today on the Business With Impact podcast, I'm so excited to share my recent experience with a social media fast.

I’m diving into why I took six weeks off of social media, and what it meant for my business.

Now before we dive in, I want to explain that I didn’t go into the year planning to take six weeks away…

Changes to the privacy policies coupled with a desire to be more present with my family meant that at the beginning of 2021, I made the decision to move all of my social media to a separate device – away from my phone.

That, coupled with some personal things that were happening at the beginning of the year, made it challenging for me to be able to post consistently.

And so during this “break” my team and I got back to the basics… so that we could make sure that everything we were doing was with purpose, for a purpose, and on purpose.

And here’s what we found:


At 3:30, I share the first lesson we learned and why it’s so important to consistently go back to our mission and vision and purpose for our business. I also share something that so many of us do for “inspiration” that actually ends up killing our creativity and causing us to blend in.


At 6:36, we dive into the second lesson, and share a confession about an area of our business we’d been neglecting. Spoiler alert: we’re updating it now and it should be finished before the end of the month!


At 8:56, is where we start talking all about lesson three — and this one was one that surprised me (even though it shouldn’t have).


At 10:39, we start to wrap up the episode with lesson four, and I share an area of my business where I broke the 80-20 rule (and what I’m doing about it moving forward).
